Discord changes/foot shooting

So today Discord announced that they'll treat everyone like kids, and require face or ID verification in order to access age restricted servers or a bunch of other features (that will likely change over time).  The full announcement can be read here:

Needless to say I won't be giving them my face or ID at all for any reason as... well, just a few months ago they got breached and people got access to 70k government IDs.  Wonderful!

The discord will stay up for now, but I'll always keep my eyes out for other options available for the community.  I personally prefer forums, but I know that's not for everyone, nor is it as easy to connect to other communities in a decentralized system like this.

I honestly think the loss of forums in the general consciousness is going to make migrations much harder than they need to be. It's not like they're not mature software - it's in the minds of people who have never used them before. They think real time communication is all there is to things and it's like ... no, not at all.
