Alternatively, "When the dwarves are so stubborn you can't even kill them by shutting down the game".
So Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning was released in 2008, and was an MMO based on Warhammer Fantasy. Unforunately, Warhammer wasn't as well known as stuff like Warcraft so there were a whole hell of a lot of comments from people saying they ripped off World of Warcraft. Even though Warcraft as a setting was basically Warhammer fanfiction. The game had a troubled development, and was published by EA so it was kind of a mess on release. That, combined with lots of people thinking it was just a WoW ripoff meant it never really found its ground. The servers shut down in 2013, honestly lasted longer than I thought it did.
But in 2014 a private server started up named Return of Reckoning. If I recall, they have the blessing of the original devs or some such, so it's like semi-official. The URL for it is here: https://www.returnofreckoning.com/ (https://www.returnofreckoning.com/)
I remember buying the game at launch way back in the day, and really enjoying it. In fact, I even did a bunch of PvP. Good to see that jumping back in the game is as good as I remember. The gameplay is very WoW-style, but done well enough. Classes have pretty interesting takes as well, such as heavy armour melee healers, and tanks that need to work their way up to unlocking abilities mid-fight. Has some nice pet-ish type classes.
The game does have a heavier PvP focus than usual, so there's less PvE content. Plus of course the game didn't really get much new stuff. Still a fun time, and its free anyway so fuck it I say give it a shot.
tl;dr - Dwarf throwing purple jars and using a grenade launcher against soccer hooligan fungus is fun even 17 years later.
